Happy Thursday! We’ve been doing our best to weather the heat and balance getting outside when it’s tolerable and staying cool and cozy at home too. We are so lucky with a neighborhood pool but it’s hit or miss on if my preschooler is going to be into it. Next year will be our year! For now we are using the library as an easy button outing and doing our best to savor the gifts of summer gardening.
THERE IS NO PLACE FOR US - This is a book I’ll be thinking about for a long time and while the audiobook was at times a bit hard to follow/keep track of the different families, I found it to be incredibly well done. It follows several families in Atlanta who are struggling to maintain housing and basically follows their stories and different circumstances that have led them to be in their specific situations. It’s incredibly relevant and made me think a lot about my own town which has experienced it’s own real estate boom. Highly, highly recommend!
LOVELIGHT FARMS - I’m setting this one down for now as I just can’t really get into it. I think it’s a me problem and I’d like to revisit with a physical copy from the library.
THE SERVICEBERRY - I cannot express to you how much I loved this tiny, powerful book and how much rent it will take up in my brain. I loved Braiding Sweetgrass and this is like the elevator pitch version all about reciprocity and flourishing in our world. This will become an annual read for me, most likely around Thanksgiving. The audio is under 2 hours and I just want everybody I know to listen to it.

My first attempt at focaccia was this zucchini potato version from Smitten Kitchen. I got 6-7 beautiful zucchini before squash vine borers took them out. I replanted a few weeks ago and am cautiously optimistic that I’m in a safe window and hope to remake this with garden zucchini!
Basil pesto with a sub of pecans for the pine nuts because we had some in our freezer!
I have had colorful sneakers on my wishlist for ages but have been hesitant to pull the trigger. These are now sitting in my cart and I think they may be the ones to try. I’m pretty picky about shoes, particularly sneakers, as comfort is my ultimate number one. I can’t stop thinking about this color and think I’d love pairing them with outfits this fall!
Definition of an easy outfit! Graphic tee and my favorite pull on shorts. I’m always looking for ways to recreate this kind of outfit and finding the right shorts has been tricky but I’m thinking these might be a winner.
Thrifted pitcher turned vase for garden flowers for his room. Almost 4 is so tender and I love it.
Rescheduled book club to discuss Wild Dark Shore. It’s been really nice to get together to discuss a book and in general I feel like we tend to have a lot of overlap in book tastes. It makes it nice that so many of our recommended books are really appealing and we’ve ended up having a second sort of unofficial book as well (this time it was Everything Is Tuberculosis). I’ve been in a book club before where I almost never wanted to read the book that was picked and when I did show up, most of the group hadn’t read it to begin with. Not the ideal so this group feels extra lovely.
Happy Thursday, friends. Thanks for being here!

I can’t wait to read Wild Dark Shore!!
Mmm pecan pesto! I just made some with pumpkin seeds and could eat it by the spoonful.
