I am in the glorious stage of postpartum where almost none of my clothes fit. Are you tired of me talking about it yet? I can’t help it when I just feel so disconnected with how my body looks right now. I had diastasis recti with my first that I never took steps to heal and it got significantly worse with this pregnancy. My belly is still fairly distended as my abdominal muscles work to heal and it’s a slow process. I’m thankful for pelvic floor physical therapy and I’m taking steps to heal my body.
But in the meantime, I still have to get dressed. I’ve been a little nervous about a summer in the south with small kids but I keep reminding myself how THANKFUL I am to have central air again. We didn’t have AC in our last house and it was definitely a source of anxiety during the summer months, especially with a baby.
I’ve been brainstorming how I want to get dressed this summer when it’s one million degrees here in Arkansas but I still want to explore. It is SO hard to get out of the house but parenting almost always feels easier when we are out and about. Famous last words? Maybe but I’m sticking with it.
#1: Matching shirt + shorts combo - I love the matching set look to create a faux jumpsuit. These are super lightweight and the top will be a nice option for sun coverage without being too hot. These mix and match so easily and I’m thinking about adding the white button down to my wardrobe (I already have it in black)
#2: Baggy shorts + fitted tank - I like having one item be looser fitting if the other is going to stick closer to my skin. These shorts dry so quickly and aren’t too swishy when you walk. I love them!
#3: Oversized graphic tee + bike shorts - Same principal of one oversized, one closer fitting. Old navy biker shorts are actually my favorite and I’ve got 3 pair in the 8 inch length that I’ve worn a million times each. I’m considering trying the 6 inch length just for something different. TBD if the two inch difference will feel like too much. This is the combo I’ll be reaching for most!
I like that any of these can go together and I’ve got options to feel a little more put together but still casual. Everything is linked for you here if you are also in the same boat!
I love all three of your outfit ideas! #3 in particular has been my go-to every summer since becoming a mom. I'm also in the same boat as you where I'm learning to love this new body of mine. This summer, I want to add more fun colors to my wardrobe, especially since I tend to stick to neutrals (mostly black clothing) most of the time.
I feel this all too much! I started doing Nuuly so I could feel good about my changing body by putting fun clothes on it and I also started making my own clothes so I could do it to my size. It’s wild to just be in a different body. Thanks for sharing these ideas!
